Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs (MCOHA)

MCOHA mission is to advance bi-cultural exchange in the Morris County Community through programs providing information, education, and practical assistance. Programs include:

Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance & Cooling
Helps eligible low-income households meet their home heating bill. Cooling Assistance helps households with a documented medical need receive a $300.00 check to pay the electric bill for the usage of the air conditioning during the summer. LIHEAP offices in Dover, Morristown, Butler, Netcong, and Mount Olive.

Weatherization
Educates the community to increase the energy efficiency and install energy efficiency measures to help reduce energy bills occupied by low-income households, particularly the elderly, those with disabilities, and families with children. Examples of these measures include but are not limited to: insulating the attic, floors, walls, water heaters, exposed pipes; tuning up, repairing, and if necessary, replacing the furnace or heating unit and hot water tank; topping air infiltration by weather stripping and caulking around doors, windows and providing instruction on the care of the weatherization materials to save energy and money.

Universal Service Fund
Can lower the amount you pay for gas and/or electricity bills. (You can apply any time during the year)

Gift of Warmth
An emergency fund that provides help to low-income households or customers in need of temporary assistance due to financial crisis with New Jersey natural gas ONLY. Applicants must have a shut-off notice and provide certain eligibility requirements (You can apply once a year, depending on funding availability).

NJ SHARES
Assist PSE&G, GPU Energy, Elizabethtown Gas, and NJNG clients with their gas and electric bills. It is a year-round program, depending on assigned funds for each year. Some eligibility requirements are: the customer has received a shut-off notice from a utility company; the customer has received written notice of arrears or a credit notice, or the customer's bill shows a balance in arrears.

Transportation
Provides transportation to preschool children from El Primer Paso Day Care Center, youth involved in enrichments activities, adults, and senior citizens who need to reach social and health service providers. Transportation services are scheduled in advance.

Outreach
Provides services in our main office in Dover and in our satellite office in Morristown. The services provided by both offices include: case management, translations, interpretation services, notary public services, advocacy, and information and referrals

Senior Citizens Program
Offers an opportunity to Hispanic senior citizens to participate in social, recreational, and educational activities.  The group meets on Monday and Thursday at MCOHA in Dover and Tuesday and Friday in Morristown. If needed, transportation will be provided through the MCOHA transportation department.

Eligibility Eligibility for the LIHEAP program along with the grant amount varies based on family size and household monthly income *(You can apply every year from November 1st thru March 30th).
