NAMI Sussex (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

NAMI Sussex is an affiliate of The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), considered “The Nation’s Voice on Mental Illness.” The organization works on the national, state, and local levels to provide programs and activities that make up the three pillars of NAMI:  Support, Education, and Advocacy.

NAMI Sussex envisions a community where those impacted by mental illness obtain the help, support and hope they require to achieve resiliency, recovery and wellness.

We offer two free signature programs:

NAMI BASICS
A 6-session course for parents/family caregivers of children (2-18) with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.

NAMI FAMILY-TO-FAMILY
An evidence-based 8-week program that helps family members, caregivers and friends understand, support and become advocates for their loved one with serious mental health challenges, while maintaining their own wellbeing. Participants learn effective communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and how to manage their own stress in the caregiving role.  Disorders covered include: depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders (including panic disorder), obsessive compulsive disorder, and co-occurring substance abuse disorders.

Courses are taught by trained facilitators who are family caregivers themselves and want to support others.  Pre-registration is required.
