Rockaway Township Recreation
Rockaway Township supports many athletic programs for residents of the community. The sports leagues are managed by volunteers and most have booster clubs that augment the operations of the programs.
Baseball – Boys and Girls ages 5-18. Program includes: various levels of Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth and Sr. Babe Ruth. Spring season; March – June with summer tournament play. Fall season; August – November. Booster Club fee required.
Basketball – Boys and Girls grade 2 – 12. Program includes clinic, In-House teams and Travel Teams. Booster Club fee required.
Cheerleading / Pom-Poms – Girls in Grades 1-8 may participate in cheerleading within the football program. Football cheerleading tryouts are held each spring for girls entering Grades 2-8. The cheerleading season begins August 1st and ends in early to mid-November, aligned with the football program. Competition cheerleading is also available. Registration and booster fees along with costs of cheerleading attire apply.
Girl’s Softball – Ages 4-18. Spring Season; March –June with summer tournament play. Fall season also available. Program includes clinic, In-House and Travel Teams competing in the Babe Ruth Girls Softball Division. Booster Club fee required.
Soccer – Boys and Girls ages 4 and up. Fall and Spring seasons with in-house, clinic and travel team play. Booster Club fee required. Registration can be completed online at rtsa.org.
Football – Boys and Girls ages 5 to 14 yrs. (but not in High School). Fall season for Flag Football, clinics and travel teams. Booster Club fee required.
Ice Hockey – Boys and Girls ages 5 through 18. Various clinics and travel team play available. League play and practice sessions occur at area rinks including Mennen Arena. Contact the Recreation Dept. for current fee structure.
Roller Hockey – Boys and Girls grades 1 through 8. Summer Season with clinic and in-house play. Booster Club fee required.
Tennis – Boys and Girls Pre-K through Adult. Various programs offered. Also available, competition through the National Junior Team Tennis League. The Tennis Program is offered at the municipal courts at Peterson Field. Contact the Recreation Office for fee structure and program details.
Track & Field – Boys and Girls ages 7 – 15 (but not in High School). Spring season and Fall Cross Country programs offered. Morris Hills Regional High School Facilities are used. Booster Club fee required.
Lacrosse – Boys and Girls grades K-8. Various clinics and travel Teams levels are offered. Spring season; March – June. Booster Club fee required.
Wrestling – Boys and Girls grades 1-8. Fall / Winter season with clinics, matches and tournaments held at the Morris Hills Regional High School facilities. Currently there are two separate programs and access depends on the area of the Township you live and where the child will attend High School. A third program, Morris Hills Regional Renegades accepts all Rockaway Township residents. Contact the Recreation Office for more information.
Swim Program – Swimming lessons are offered at Mount Hope Pond for children ages pre-K through adult. Participants will require a Beach Membership unless under the age of 5.
Bowling – Boys and Girls ages 5-14 Fall/Winter seasons held at the Rockaway Lanes. Fee for the program is based on current lane prices for youth league play and could be subject to change.
Recreation for Special Populations – Rockaway Township is proud to participate in the Morris County Adaptive Recreation Program (MCARP). This program provides residents to access year round Recreation Programs, Social Activities and Trips for mentally and physically challenged children and adults. Summer Playground – Boys and Girls grades 2-8. Program runs for six weeks in the summer, from 9am – Noon at three public school facilities. Children will enjoy activities including arts & crafts, gym and playground games, trips and end of season picnic. Registration held in May at the Recreation Dept. Office.
Rockaway Township P.A.L. – The Recreation Dept. works cooperatively with the local P.A.L. on various programs. The PAL offers a “Challenger League” for Softball, Soccer and Basketball, various trips to area attractions. For more information on the PAL, call 973-983- 2942.
Parent Resource Network (PRN) - The PRN, originally established in cooperation with the Rockaway Township BOE, Municipal Library and the Recreation Dept., now functions as an entity of the BOE. Programs offered are: MOMS Group of Rockaway Twp.; First Friends Playgroup; Parent-to-Parent Newsletter; Speaker Series and Support of Major Municipal Special Events for Children.
