Medicaid/Medical Assistance

Medicaid benefits can include payment of hospital, doctor, dental, prescription, rehabilitative and nursing home services, among others.

Medicaid is not the same as Medicare, which is a program administered by the Socal Security Administration.

Families with children, pregnant women, and other adults who meet income and resource requirements are eligible under various Medicaid progras such as New Jersey Care, New Jersey FamilyCare, New Jersey KidCare, and Medically Needy.

Elderly and disabled persons whose income is above the Supplementary Security Income (SSI) levels are often eligible for Medicaid.

Also assists those in need of nursing home care or medical home based services.

REcipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and General Assistance (GA) are automatically eligible for Medicaid.  Clients losing TANF eligibility due to increased income may be eligible to receive Medicaid up to two additional years.

For persons not covered by Medicaid or other prescription health plans, the County of Sussex participates in a prescription discount program administered by a private vendor.  There are no income or resource eligibility requirements.  Any Sussex County person/family may participate by paying a small yearly membership fee,  The number to call for an application is 1-800-633-0037.
